Character Name & Pronouns: Ryu, D-Ratio 1/8192, Linked to Odjn, Lord Regent Sheldar (he/him)
Character Age: His age is not mentioned in-game, however, he's a rookie cop and monster hunter with impressive scores, who managed a fairy village from 'barely alive' to 'thriving' in the space of a few days. Guy's an adult.
Canon: Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter
Canon Point: Post-canon

History: In a world wracked centuries ago by an incurable disease, at least some of humanity survived in a vast underground complex called "Sheldar", overseen by ancient bioengineered tyrant dragons responsible for its systems: Chetyre the protector, Dover the miner, and Odjn, whose eyes looked to the sky.

Since the dragons were so important, the affinity to link to a dragon became the highly valued. As this was, supposedly, biologically and genetically determined, it was possible to determine the chances one would Link, and so social cache became directly related to your chances of linking to a dragon. This was certainly not a bad idea that led to many problems.

So anyway, Ryu was a low-D (chances 1 in 8192 or worse) who just got into the local cop force and probably would never make it past grunt because of that accident of birth. And so he ate his worm chowder and did his monster hunting with his partner, Bosch 1/64.

On their first escort mission, they were attacked by rebel forces (well, rebel. Singular. With a warbeast.) and separated. And Ryu, falling 200 meters to his presumed death along with the cargo, connected with Odjn, and woke up anyway.

The cargo tank was open. Searching for what he presumed was a rogue monster, he instead found a war-beast, carrying a girl.

The girl, Nina, later turned out to be the cargo-- And when Ryu refused to give her up to Bosch and his fellow cops, he was given two fatal blows and a wanted status.

It was then the clock started ticking for them all. Odjn could only keep Ryu alive so long in those conditions.

As for Nina, her lungs had been modified into pollution filters, and her voice box cut out. From the moment he learned this, Ryu and the dragon Odjn were linked, not just by accident, but now by purpose: For the only way to save Nina was to escape Sheldar, and the only way to escape Sheldar was to reach the sky.

With the help of Nina, and the rebel, Lin, Ryu climbed the long way up his post-apocalyptic cave system, a thousand meters or more of gain in a few scant days, marked by desperation and fury as he and the dragon Odjn worked together, one last shot to save everyone. On the way, he was hounded by his former employers, by Bosch forcing a link with Chetyre in an attempt to prove his superiority, and by the human rulers of Sheldar itself, named Regents in the absence of a Link.

At the last, Odjn and Chetyre had it out, a final duel for the fate of everyone.

Pushed past almost all enduring, Ryu rested on the elevator to the surface, watching Nina and Lin ascend, with Odjn attempting to close the connection to save his life...

And both of them found a letter.

Personality: Ryu has a firm sense of justice and a strong desire to help people, but his upbringing and ordeal have left him with scars he refuses to address, both physical and emotional. When called upon to take a leadership role, he rises to the occasion, taking over the rebuilding of a faerie village while simultaneously performing the escape mentioned above-- and allowing them to thrive within that space of a few days.

The constant starvation existence of Sheldar has made him eminently unpicky about food. Things this guy has eaten include: electrical chickens, magical goo, genetically modified worm chowder, the floor, fried mimic slug, and bullets.

He also has a consistent sense of wonder, both about the Sky, and about Rosavelle. Even the opulence of Sheldar Center, where the Regents lived, was only a pale imitation of the vibrant life on the surface, and Rosavelle is a step further beyond that.

Released from his many, many bonds, Ryu is eager to try new things, but finds he is limited by his knowledge. But with an eye towards managing people, an appreciation for the beauty of the world, and the supreme confidence one can only have from having a dragon at your beck and call, maybe he'll get through it just fine.

Abilities:
Managerial fairy king: Ryu is able to quickly assess someone's basic skills when it comes to arranging for work and coaching and acclimating them to a wide variety of jobs. If you need someone to know what you can do, and where you can go to help, he's DEFINITELY your guy. His specialty is excavation projects (because when you live underground for a few hundred years you learn things about bedrock you never thought-- as a society-- you'd need to know), but he can help run shops, arrange appointments, and lead teams, able to build thriving towns from scratch in a few days given the investment and materials needed. I understand if this, especially, will need permissions, like Yoojin's status window.

Linked to Odjn: Ryu is linked to the ancient dragon, Odjn. This has several perks, including, but not limited to: enhanced strength, bursts of intense speed that are sufficient to disorient opponents and rescue people from the jaws of doom before they hit the ground, and relatively quick healing. He can also transform into a half-dragon self, but I fully expect that win-mode to not nearly be so overwhelming (or as personally dangerous to Ryu) as it is in-game. (long story short: you can count on one hand the things that can hurt Ryu in dragon form in-game, and it swiftly crushes most encounters. It's also the thing that shortens your timer the fastest, short of your even more ludicrous dragon-breath ability).

Oh, uh-- right. The timer. As a result of that link, Ryu has a dragon slowly maturing within him, which, uh. Will not be fun for anyone! Rosavelle's healers have managed to change this from a wasp-child situation to a symbiosis, but...

Swordsman: Ryu is an accomplished and talented swordsman, especially given that he's a rookie. Even granted that he's getting a minor boost from Odjn even in his normal form, this man went through his entire former unit, two cities' worth of monsters, at least four Regents, all of whom had annoying regenerating shields, and the previous person who linked to Odjn. He didn't do it alone, but the fact that he was in there doing consistent damage says a lot about his strength and skill with a blade.

Mage: Similarly, it's clear from Elyon that Ryu could use magic, if he had the time and training to do so. He may have the time, but not in Rosavelle. Besides, Nina handled attack magic.

Starveling: Guy can stomach just about anything. Beats starving.

Bloom Bond Flower: Geranium. Ryu is the front-liner of his team: mechanically, he's the one stepping in front of the wild blows of his opponents. This is borne out in the game's story. One incident in particular has you rushing to protect Nina during what you hoped was some downtime; Ryu is the one who rushes in first. He's also given to doubt and melancholy, as just before that scene, he asks Lin if he's going to die at the behest of some distant horror he barely knows, and just what he was made such a force of destruction for.
